Patrick Cavanaugh and Bridget Killeen

Another Killeen couple with surprisingly few marriages amongst their offspring:

Bridget Killeen was one of the daughters (possibly the fourth daughter, and fifth child) of Denis Killeen and Mary Ahearn, and a sister of Hanora (married Michael Donahue), and also of Ellen (married Mathew Daley), of Patrick (married Bridget Galligan), of Margaret Jane (married John Lahey), of John (married Margaret Fahey), and of five other known siblings. She was born at March township about 1827, and died at Maniwaki, Gatineau Co., Québec in 1910.
On 2 May 1854 (Notre Dame, Bytown), Bridget Killeen married Patrick Cavanaugh, son of Christopher Cavanaugh and Jane Malone, and an emigrant from Co. Kildare, Ireland. The couple lived in March township, Carleton Co., Ontario for the next six to eight years, where they had five known children (Mary Jane; Margaret; John Christopher; William; and Anna Esther), before moving to Maniwaki, where they had another three known children (James Patrick; Denis Joseph; and Albert). Patrick Cavanaugh was a blacksmith, as were his sons John, William, and James, according to the 1881 census (Quebec, Ottawa, Egan and Maniwaki, household of Patrick Kavanagh, family no. 15; LAC; click thumbnail to see larger image):

Patrick Cavanaugh died 9 February 1898, and was buried in the cemetery at Notre Dame de l’Assomption in Maniwaki. There is an interesting note in the margins of his burial record, presumably inserted in 1908: “Enfants de Patrick Cavanaugh et de Bridget Killeen,” with the names and ages of the six surviving Cavanaugh “children” (who ranged in age from 50 to 39 at the time), and with the notation that they were all single in 1908 (“Tous célibataires en 1908”):

Bridget Killeen died 18 September 1910, and was buried at Notre Dame de l’Assomption, Maniwaki, with her sons John, William, James and Denis Cavanaugh serving as burial witnesses, along with “un grand nombre de citoyens” (a great number of citizens).
As far as I make out, 6 of the 8 children of Patrick Cavanaugh and Bridget Killeen certainly made it to adulthood: Mary Jane, Margaret, John Christopher, William, James Patrick, and Denis Joseph. Anna Esther Cavanaugh died in 1881, at the age of 21; and Albert, who is not listed in the above-cited note (“Enfants de Patrick Cavanaugh et de Bridget Killeen” in 1908), presumably died before 1908 (or he may have moved away from Maniwaki as a young man, of course, and the priest who made that marginal note did not know of him).
I have so far found only one marriage record for the eight children of Patrick Cavaugh and Bridget Killeen:
On 8 September 1926, Denis Joseph Cavanaugh married Mary Ethel Barnes, daughter of Peter Barnes and Margaret Jane Killeen. Peter Barnes was godfather to my grandmother Mary Catherine Lahey; and I suspect that his wife Margaret Killeen may have been the godmother (though the godmother is listed as Margaret Gallagher in my grandmother’s baptismal record, I have a hunch [related to another Killeen-Gallagher confusion] that Margaret Gallagher may have been a Margaret Killeen). In any case, since Margaret Jane Killeen, wife of Peter Barnes and mother of Mary Ethel, was the daughter of John Killeen and Margaret Fahey and the granddaughter of Denis Killeen and Mary Ahearn, Denis Joseph Cavanaugh and Mary Ethel Barnes would have been first cousins once removed. Denis Joseph Cavanaugh was about 60 years old when he married Mary Ethel Barnes, who was 39 years old at the time of their marriage. They had at least one child, Mary Colleen Cavanaugh, born at Maniwaki in 1928.
