CS Beauty Queen Contestant

As I’ve said before, newspapers are not just for obituaries. For example, perhaps your aunt was a runner-up in the 1952 Civil Service Beauty Queen Contest? You may find a notice in an Ottawa newspaper, with perhaps a really wonderful photograph as a bonus:

The Ottawa Citizen, 12 March 1952

A “young lovely” to represent the Civil Service Commission?! It really was a different world. Apparently this pageant was first held in 1946, then became an annual contest from 1950, until falling out of favour in the early 1970s. For a fascinating account of this beauty contest, see James Powell’s Miss Civil Service (Today in Ottawa’s History).
